CONSTRUCTION PROJECT ENGINEER

JOB DESCRIPTION

Innovative, Fast-paced & growing Commercial and Healthcare General Contractor in Mesa is looking for an individual with the right attitude and skills to join our dynamic team.

 

We are looking for an experienced Project Engineer with excellent organization and problem-solving skills. Must have commercial construction experience, healthcare experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Read and comprehend project plans and specifications.

  • Support the Project Managers and Project Superintendents to ensure all documentation activities within the project are completed as expeditiously as possible.

  • Assist PMs and PreCon Manager with the preparation of budgets and support estimating efforts and subcontractor procurement and buy-out.

  • Effectively and accurately communicate relevant project information to the client and project team.

  • Review submittals and accurately maintain tracking log.

  • Draft, issue, and track subcontracts and change orders.

  • Verify and track all subcontractor insurance and licensing is up to date at all times.

  • Issue and track RFIs -verifying their accuracies and impact on the project.

  • Monitor, verify and expedite material and equipment deliveries.

  • Provide project document control.

  • Prepare and distribute meeting minutes.

  • Manage project close-out documentation.

 

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3+ years of COMMERCIAL CONSTRUCTION EXPERIENCE in a project management support role.

  • The ability to read and comprehend construction drawings and specifications is mandatory.

  • Highly organized with the ability to work with multiple managers, manage multiple projects and meet deadlines

  • Strong written and verbal skills

  • Healthcare experience is a plus.

  • Bluebeam, Sharepoint, Sage and Procore Experience a plus.

HEALTHCARE SUPERINTENDENT

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are seeking an experienced Healthcare Superintendent to join our team who has extensive experience with the following types of projects:

  • Musts: Minimum 4 years as a lead superintendent for:

    • In-Hospital Critical environment renovations and expansions

  • Plusses: Minimum 4 years as a lead superintendent for:

    • Private healthcare / outpatient facilities build-outs and renovations (ASCs)

    • Occupied and unoccupied TI’s

    • Office & MOB

    • Industrial a plus

  • Ground-ups & building additions a plus

  • Projects range from $250K to $10MM

  • We do NOT do multi-family or residential projects.

  • We do NOT work outside of Arizona.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The ideal candidate must possess a great work ethic; the ability to work independently and be a team player.  A Can-Do, problem solving attitude is a must.

  • The ability to establish, build and maintain relationships with both new and existing clients to drive repeat business.

  • Highly motivated and able to communicate in a professional, friendly and positive manner.

  • Complete knowledge of each project and focus on planning, conflict identification & resolution and motivating subcontractors to meet and exceed their commitments.

  • Detailed development, management and updating of the overall project schedule using Microsoft Project.

  • Assist Project Manager & Project Coordinators with construction document review, budgeting and subcontract scope review.

  • Overall responsibility for all job-site safety

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • 10 consecutive years of experience in construction.

  • 4 years of experience as a Lead Healthcare Superintendent.

  • In-depth knowledge of ICRA & ILSM and ability to create and diagram associated plans.

  • OSHA 30 certificate

  • Ability to ascend and descend ladders, stairs and scaffolding multiple times per day.

  • Ability to lift and carry at least 50lbs.

  • Ability to pass a drug screening and background check

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle

  • Willingness to work nights and weekends based on project needs

 

Compensation     

  • Salary: Highly competitive and Commensurate with Experience & Qualifications

COMMERCIAL  CONSTRUCTION CARPENTER / GENERAL HANDYMAN

Minimum 5 years of experience is necessary. This is a full-time and benefits eligible position. Skills, Training & Certification Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 consecutive years of hands-on construction experience is necessary.

  • General skilled craftsmanship with framing, sheetrock, taping, painting, etc.

  • Extensive familiarity with powered hand-tools (saws, drills, roto-hammers, laser-levels, etc.)

  • Ability to erect metal-stud commercial framing and Level 4 drywall finish.

  • Have extensive ability to use hand tools

  • Own a set of basic hand-tools (applicant provided)

  • Wear appropriate construction clothing including work boots (applicant provided)

  • Willingness to ALWAYS Wear PPE: hard hat, safety vest, glasses, etc (Company provided)

  • Be capable/comfortable working outdoors in any and all kinds of weather (note that most of our projects are indoors)

  • Follow instructions provided by superintendents, foreman

  • Be capable of lifting and carrying equipment and materials up to 50 lbs.

  • Work well with others and maintain a positive teamwork attitude

  • Keep safety of themselves and others a priority

  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment

  • Report to work on time, everyday and stay on-task.

  • Willingness to work nights and weekends when and as necessary

  • Effectively communicate in English (spoken and written)

GENERAL SUPERINTENDENT OF CONSTRUCTION FIELD OPERATIONS

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Assign, organize, supervise, and manage the field construction team including superintendents, foremen, skilled-tradesmen, and laborers to meet all project requirements and company goals

- Provide oversight, leadership, and mentorship to support the Superintendents and Foremen in project planning, documentation, scheduling, logistics, safety, subcontractor communication and relations and all other field related best-practices.

- Make frequent visits to all projects during the various phases of preconstruction, construction, and closeout.

- Work with HR in all field interviews, hiring, performance reviews and termination needs

- Identify field-staff training and other self-improvement opportunities and programs

- Report to and collaborate with the Director of Operations to guide and ensure that all project management team and field team goals are aligned, and proper resources are allocated

- Identify the unique challenges and risks of each project. Develop and implement plans to mitigate all liabilities

- When necessary, assist project management with field-related problem solving and customer relationship management

- Act as a liaison between project management and the field team, helping to facilitate outstanding project preparation and execution through thorough communication and teamwork

- Be continually aware of each project’s construction schedule and collaborate with Project Managers and Superintendents in preventing delays

- As part of the senior leadership team, help to establish goals and performance metrics for this critical area of our business and drive accountability toward meeting these

- Manage the deployment and use of technology to improve efficiency, communication, and quality

- Ensure that the team has the systems, tools, and labor resources necessary to meet company, customer, and project requirements

-Oversee staff responsible for company tool, equipment, and materials inventory. Reduce loss, theft and premature equipment failures

- Manage field-staff policy development and implementation in conjunction with HR

- Oversee the company safety program as a liaison with our 3rd party safety consultant

- In collaboration with the President and Director of Operations, manage compensation and incentive programs for the field operations team

- Work closely with Project Management and Pre-Construction teams to collaborate on the pursuit of key projects, improve estimating accuracy, and negotiate contract scope requirements

- Continually oversee and improve a timely and comprehensive project closeout process

-Act as a fill-in superintendent when and as required

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

- 15+ years of proven experience in the commercial construction industry

- 10+ years of proven personnel management skills as a Director of Field Operations, General Superintendent, or Senior Project Manager

- Ground-Up and TI experience required

- Healthcare and hospital construction experience is highly preferred but no required.

- Self-motivated with a strong work ethic

- Passionate about customer service

- Technology savvy, preferably with experience using Microsoft Project, Excel, Bluebeam and Procore

-Proven ability to expertly develop and maintain highly detailed schedules using MS Project or Primavera.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

- Bachelor’s degree or higher in construction management or related engineering or architecture field preferred but not required

- Valid driver’s license, insurable, and ability to travel throughout Arizona

Working Conditions

- Office-based with frequent visits to construction sites throughout Arizona

- Physical requirements – ability to use ladders and exert up to 40lbs force occasionally

  • Salary:  $130,000 - $140,000, Commensurate with Experience & Qualifications
